Sunday, 31. January 2021
There is a captivating history to the Cambodia gambling halls that reside just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling den wagering is against the law. Eight gambling dens are established in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime area, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a number of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to cross, there are means around this, as is correct of many borders.
The 1st Cambodia casinos premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored bateau gambling den, highlights one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat banque, 4 tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat banque (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slots and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational resort and hotel compound that highlights a number of luxuries on top of the gambling hall, which offers ten thousand square feet of 130 slot machines and eighty eight table games.
